Put simply, this race is going to come down to who gets their base out and if we lose this one, weve not only lost hope for any kind of real reform in Wisconsin, weve also given Barack Obama an easier path to re-election in 2012. Secondly, if you know anyone in Wisconsin and havent yet called and urged them to vote for Prosser, stop reading this and go do so now. First off, if you live in Wisconsin and havent yet voted to re-elect State Supreme Court Justice David Prosser, stop reading this and go vote.

Those of you under the misguided notion, that even in the event of a Prosser loss, his 4-to-3 tie-breaking swing vote in favor of judicial restraint will remain on the court long enough to validate Governor Walkers Budget Repair Bill, had better think again. Sumis delayed her next ruling for nearly two months. This allows her to hold on to the case until the end of May or the beginning of June. The Madison judge, Dane County Circuit Judge Maryann Sumi, who has pulled every judicial activist trick in the book to block Walkers bill on an absurd technicality, has no doubt intentionally decided to run out the clock in the hopes liberal activist Joanne Kloppenburg succeeds in unseating Prosser. Prossers term would end July 31, which make it very possible the States highest court wont rule until long afterwards.

Its by design. The will of the people is being overturned by the worst kind of judicial overreach my former home state has seen in a long time — which brings me to the bigger picture. This isnt an accident or coincidence. Throwing a wrench in the gears in order to slow down the process in the hopes a more favorable appeals court judge will win an election, is something else. Delaying the enactment of a law over a technicality regarding an Open Meetings rule no serious person thinks was violated, is one thing.

This racket – and thats exactly what it is — that forces workers into the union, is not only the well spring of union power in Wisconsin, it is also a central source of political power for Democrats, including Obama, in a must-win swing state. Millions of dollars in dues help to pay for the union machines crucial get-out-the-vote activities and their massive campaign ad blitzes. Though the bills dishonest opponents and their media minions have framed the debate around the concept of workers rights, one right Walker gives public workers is the right to NOT join the union. Furthermore, instead of the state collecting dues from those who choose to join, the union will now have to collect dues all on their own.

it has given us liberal judges who vote from their opinion, or from laws in other lands instead of looking at our constitution and other prevailing laws. For far too long we really have not paid attention to who gets these judgeship's…. It really shows us how important we look at every detail that makes up our country.

Go Wisconsin!!!!. May GOD's favor and blessing be with State Supreme Court Justice David Prosser and the "People" of Wisconsin. Maybe everyone should vote late so as they don't know how many votes they need to win at closing…There has to be something that we can do to keep them guessing to the end…don't forget to get photos of the buses busing in the people. What about voter fraud? I hope there are cautionary measures in place.

So it's a test of the Republican Party AND the Tea Party, as to whether we have the staying power to make it to 2012. So how did they do it, unless they had some serious "boots on the ground" to get out the vote? I have to think the political machinery is still in place since November.

This is a long game, and the union outburst has exposed this practice of the state withholding and paying union dues is now out there, another wonderful object study for 2012, and the ever popular “judicial activism.” If we find the right candidate, I predict a landslide ala Reagan – Carter for the conservative candidate. Be cool, if you’re in Wisconsin, “GET YOU’RE A$$ OUT AND VOTE!” Regardless of the outcome we are still only at the very beginning of the restoration of the republic. Though this vote is important, it’s not the end of the world either way.

Rest assured however that the same voters who watched the thug tactics of the MOB mentality Unions will be in the voting both today and their not worried about having to place posters in their bedroom windows. Most of those warm bodies in the assembly were shipped in astroturf and all they really did was piss off allot of Wisconsin voters who will be showing their displeasure today.

We have a Community Agitator in the White House. These sick people will be digging up corpses in the graveyard to make sure they vote for the Union. And you know Obama will have his Acorn type people at the polls. If the Union wins this, we will be run by the Mob and Obama for years to come.

Senate Democrats are divided, in part because neither the Senate Majority Harry Reid (D-Nev.), nor Obama has defined a clear strategy of how they want to deal with the political vote. The Republicans still could muddy the tensions threatening to suspend aid if you have not received any serious concession to reduce costs, a move that could rock the market.

But it is a non-starter Boehner and other GOP leaders, and a growing number of Democrats. The Ohio Republican, said "no chance" of the House of Representatives voted to give the government more room to borrow without attaching spending cuts or serious reform process. But walking a fine line of pushing too hard, because the stakes of not raising the ceiling on total debt.

But what is really wrong is the time lost will increase the debt ceiling. We know some of both sides to try to do. I say vote now and receive at once. Again, what we voted on November 2, once again on hold while playing blame games. And no race "who believe in waste and pork please some who give to them. Because in the end both parties know they must do.

What would be the end of the world again. Let's see: the history of both sides of the room and tax if "we" do not raise the ceiling on credit card from Uncle Sam, allowing the institution to borrow even more against our future, our current control the federal government could "default" on existing debt.

The solution to the shortfall and a DC output control is to keep the lid on the debt limit! That is what should be a limit. Today, the White House said it should not "dirty" limit (in which the Chief Enabler to say, we should do, because now "regrets" his record of voting against the 2006 collection at the time. .)

To take the praise for everything that has been forged. Adjust the budget for it. 7 – Tea Party in control, reducing the debt cap of at least $ 2 million a year until it is completely eliminated. BHZ You decide where every penny you spend and how to run your fucking Obamacare.

As Peter Wallsten writes this morning, as a result of the new rules, 154,000 people since 2007 have had their voting rights restored, compared to around 8,000 per year in the time prior. Naturally, Gov. Rick Scott (R) and Attorney General Pam Bondi (R) are moving to make it harder for the formerly incarcerated to vote again:.

Felony disenfranchisement laws serve no civic purpose — no one ever stopped themselves from committing a crime simply because they might lose the right to vote. The formerly incarcerated have served their time, the argument for punishing them post-release by denying them the right to vote is pure politics masquerading as tough-on-crime moral uprightness. Florida Republicans are moving to restrict the voting power of a Democratic constituency in a presidential swing state, nothing more, nothing less.

New Hampshire Republicans are trying to ban many college students from voting because they “vote as liberal.” These days, the most important battles over access to the ballot box don’t happen on election day, and they don’t involve dramatic examples of flagrant voter intimidation. Newly empowered Republican legislatures have been imposing onerous voter ID laws in at least 32 states, even though in-person voter fraud is virtually nonexistent. This is happening all over the country. They happen in state legislatures, around the basic rules for how to show up and vote on election day. Texas went as far as exempting concealed carry permit holders and people born before 1931 from its voter ID law, a transparent admission that such laws can needlessly disenfranchise voters and that the intent of the law was to disenfranchise likely Democratic constituencies.

This also helps explain conservative hostility to the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division in general — the last thing Republicans want is the federal government intervening to protect the franchise when the GOP is busy trying to restrict it to their own constituencies. This is something to consider when Republicans treat the New Black Panther voter intimidation case as an outrage. Not a single voter has said they were intimidated in that case, but Republican legislatures all over the country are actively pursuing policies that could disenfranchise thousands of people because they are more likely to vote for the other side.

Well, that’s sort of true, at first a few voted to limit the salaray, then they duped the democrats into holding another vote and voted against the limit. I particularly liked that Republicans wouldn’t even limit the salary ot these “executives” to the salary of the governor. I believe Republcians largely lampoon Obama for his “Czars”, I’m not sure what the difference is here.

Bondi is right; Crist was wrong. There are perfectly legitimate reasons to disenfranchise felons: Those who don’t follow the laws should not automatically get to make the laws for everyone else, which is what you do when you vote. The right to vote should be restored carefully, on a case-by-case basis. See our website: http://www.ceousa.org/content/blogcategory/64/93/ Ms.

In New Hampshire, Republicans are pushing to end rules that allow same-day voter registration in the state, which has often provided key swing votes for candidates from all parties in the state. State GOP lawmakers are also proposing new limits on students, including a bill that would allow them to vote in college towns only if they or their parents had established permanent residency in the state.

but Mr Sargent is clinging to a mighty thin reed here. The liberal commenters here simply support Mr Sargent’s bigotry with their own version of “all conservative/Republicans/tea party members are.”. He’s made an assertion that Republicans are racists and that they have painted all felons, and all blacks with the same brush.

This oppression needs to be nipped in the bud. Without Charlie Rangel watching his back (and others) any longer, we’re dependent on the Reverand Al Sharpton to speak out about this arcane interpretation of the Constitution and other US Laws. Next they’ll be saying you need to be a US citizen before you can vote, which would be an injustice to the undocumented population who are actually citizens, but only of the country they left behind when they made their journey North (or South if they’re Canadians I suppose).

People are more likely to re-commit to the social compact which they’ve violated if they feel they’ve been given a stake in determining the particulars of that compact through voting. Thanks Adam, for writing this post. As a professional working on criminal justice issues, I am also aware of extensive evidence demonstrating that individuals who vote are substantially less likely to re-offend than those individuals who do not vote, for whatever reason. As a disenfranchised felon who was rightfully convicted of a terrible crime, I am grateful to live in a state where my voting rights will be restored when I complete the probation portion of my sentence in 2014.

Wisconsin governor plans Scott Walker (R) and the legislature of the intestine through which collective bargaining with unions of public opinion to secure the payment and benefits for most staff could spread to other states in the Midwest as wave of small government conservative elected last year to take some of the most cherished ideals of democracy.

No region of the country was the most comprehensive overhaul of the 2010 elections, seven upper Midwestern states of Minnesota vault in Ohio. When the Democrats had the advantage, the Republicans now have a stranglehold on the politics of virtual control of both houses of parliament seats and the governor of Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.

The story is the same for the legislatures of seven states. The Republicans now have the power in six of the seven lower parliamentary chambers (called the House of Assembly, in some states and others) over a year ago. They also have five of the state senate. Illinois has only counter this trend, with Democrats controlling the Assembly and Senate and Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn.

Wisconsin Democrats have resorted to extreme measures to retain the right to vote. On Friday, Walker told two police officers to collect the missing pro-democracy leader Mark Miller at home to force a vote. State Senate Democrats Thursday Fourteen out of Madison, so the Statehouse lawmakers short of a quorum.

In a perfect world, which this isn’t, where there were limitless jobs and an economy well running one might consider this request. Unfortunately for them, they do not have these skills and are still waiting to enter this country. This country has quotas on various ethnic groups and people with certain desired skills in our society. Sorry Lynn! I’m sure there are other things we could agree upon, but not amnistry. However, the way that this bill is worded is dangerous. This is about politics pure and simple not about the USA and what is good for this country. Lynn: You seem like a very well meaning lady. The democrates see future votes for themselves as a result of this legislation. Admit as much as 7.2 million family members as a result of this act-no way Jose! No anchor babies please! It is said that these kids are validictorians and salutitorians in their schools. Their status is an example of what our immigration policy is all about. But how many high schools do we have in this country? We do not have 2.1 million validictorians and salutitorians in this country. They ought to be thankful for this society providing them with a great education. I say good for them. Why should kids, whose parents intentionally broke the law, be rewarded for their unfortunate situation. Why should our Mexican friends have the right to bring unlimited family members into this country? I have family members in Europe, many of them. Most of the people under 35 have marginal work skills similar to their parents. Let’s say it like it is.

Or we could just continue to not do anything at all. Nothing is perfect indeed, so we make adjustments as we go. They won’t just be getting handouts, but will be paying back their part to society. But that’s too much trouble for most people. It’s ridiculous to gripe about a problem, but not be willing to try to fix it. I’m not 100% behind this bill, but Lynn made an excellent point in that there will now be some level of accountability from the people who qualify under this act.

Howard, your kids will be able to obtain drivers license, your kids will be able to receive financial aid during college, your kids will receive a plethora of scholarships because they are citizens, your kids will be able to work after obtaining a diploma (worked very hard for) from college. I am in the pursuit of a higher education. and Mrs. May their future be bright and prosperous. Howard, imagine if your children were hurting like me. Mr. I am blissful they will NEVER EVER have to feel the way I do. As I read news about the Dream Act, I happen to encounter a number of individuals who are against the Act that will quite literally save me from the obscurity of the world I currently live in. Mr. Yet, there is one single thing I am passionate about, and that is education. I am a senior in High School this year, and little do I know what will be of my future. I am beyond happy your kids are entitled to these rights because I, on the other hand, am not (despite my numerous merits and outstanding performance). God knows how hurtful that is. If you oppose the Dream Act, you are opposing my dreams. You are opposing me. Mrs.

You are not giving anything to criminals, or people that will be a burden to this country but to people that will have a significant positive impact on your lives. What are those benefits you speak of that they get and take away from your children??? Please list them all and then we can talk. Do you realize how ignorant you look when you just speak and have no information at all? What do they qualify for? What are they getting and taking from your little ones? Why do you call them criminals? What you ever blamed your kids for something you did. Face that fact and now you have to make a decision: do you want a future America filled with adults whose higher education is high school because we did not allow them to move forward? We would really have a problem then. If you get stopped for running a red light do you blame it on your kid? Is he arrested too and given a DUI when you have been irresponsible? NOW DO YOU REALLY KNOW WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM THIS BILL? Successful children and young adults who have graduated with a college degree and whose only interest is to GIVE BACK TO “THEIR” COUNTRY. You people speak with hatred and racism and not with rational. They won’t be asking you taxpayers for anything. So leave your hate and racism aside and actually think with your head. Too much ignorance is driving me nuts. They could perhaps be the generators of jobs for “your children”. THEY ARE INNOCENTS THAT ARE ALREADY HERE. They will be GIVING you a better quality of life by adding significant taxpayer revenue with their contribution in their professional field. And please know the topic before you decide to comment on it. First of all, READ ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND WHAT THIS BILL IS ACTUALLY ABOUT and then you should comment on it. THEY ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE AS MUCH AS YOU FUSS ABOUT AND COMPLAIN. Or do you want future America filled with white collar professionals creating together a stronger nation. FACE IT. If you really cared about your children you would choose that better option because this is the world we are setting up for them.

Let these people become activists in the own nations, change the laws, UNvote the corrupt politicians. Sound fair? Sign your kids up ASAP please!. Thats why everyone wants to come here. Uphold their own ideals! How about if we do an even swap, you send your kids to Mexico, Equador, Cuba, etc and we’ll keep theirs here. JR what a bunch of B— S—! You obviously would sell our nation down the river.left loon! America is not perfect, for sure, but it is the best thing going.

My country is here, this is my country no matter what others day, my family and friends were made here back in my country i have nobody i do not know anybody i only know my grandparents and few aunts, uncles and counsins.no matter what others say this is my country like any other american and i treat people as i would like to be treated myself and i do not treat them differently because of their race or what country they came from. but because we are all human beings and their is no difference between you and me at the end of the day we are all equal. I came into this country when i was 10 years old now i am 19 years old and graduating at the top of my class tell me how i do not know the day of tomorrow or how ill ever have a good job i have no choice but work as a house cleaner. God bless those who agree with this act and god bless those that dont either, but at night i hope they think of me and many other under aged immigrants that have no choice or had no choice coming to this country and put it in their heads that i did not have a choice to come here i see this as my destiny.GOD BLESS AMERICA THE LAND OF THE FREE.. it hurts me inside to see how people are so selfish and only think about themselves, i wish so much that this immigration thing wouldnt make us so different but i thank god everyday for the supportive friends i got that does not treat me any different from them. But now feel guilty and humiliated with other peoples opinion and judgments, little comments they make. this act will not provide us with citizenship it provides us some type of passport or social security for me and other children to have a little hope to be able to go to a great college, eventually having a great future and having a license being able to drive and be like any other teen. I had no choice coming here like many other children because if i did i wouldnt have came here leaving all my fiends and family back but now the only family and friends i have are here i dont remenber those people back in my country anymore. At the age of 16/17 most of my friends were getting their permits and now their license but i cant.

Guess what genius those thast have that tax id number are also filing for their federal income taxes at the end of the year. Its called identity theft. They are getting back the same amount as any other filer but doing it illegally. There are hundreds of thousands of them that are using the same ssn as legal residents.

so NO DREAM ACT, NO AMNESTY EVER, now whats racist about that. and where do you think the money to implement this and pay for all the new goverment employees is comming from, thats right , my pocket. dreamact-let me spell it out for you- we don’t want them here, I don’t care how smart they are , they are ILLEGAL, they must go back to whatever country they came from, and yes it will cost us about 6.2 billion after the first 10yrs.

A chance to have a shot at living in the only country they’ve ever known WITHOUT the risk of deportation. First of all, think about who you’re calling “illegal.” You might not know it but the kid sitting next to yours might never have a chance of even going to college. What the Dream Act is asking for is NOT AMNESTY but a chance for opportunity.

So these illegal immigrants are not only paying their taxes, but they are also paying for your future social security check . We all get a deduction from our paychecks. Illegal immigrants CANNOT use federal aid. Illegal immigrats, even though they sometimes use fake documents, are still required to pay their taxes (federal and state). Now if you are going to talk about tax payers and how illegal immigrants are not tax payers than you do not know what you are talking about. English is and will always be the first language. In addition a last piece of information for you all. Hahaha clearly none of the people above me have attended any public school lately. Now how do they “pay” these taxes you may be asking your self? Well the same way we all do.

Around 7 a.m. one year ago today, every Democratic senator in office – 60 in all – voted in favor of enacting comprehensive health care reform. It was the ultimate Christmas Eve present for Barack Obama. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had leveraged the threat of spending Christmas in the Capitol to force even reticent Democratic senators to support the landmark legislation, close a major chapter of the debate over health care and head home for the holiday.

Obama, before flying to Hawaii for his family Christmas vacation, said, “Let’s make 2010 the year we finally reform health care in the United States of America.”. Max Baucus, chair of the Senate Finance Committee, which assembled most of the bill, referred to a “finish line.” Sen. Chuck Schumer argued that negative rhetoric over the bill had “piqued” and that the legislation would soon become more popular. In a brief press conference after the vote, Democratic Senate leaders lauded each other and celebrated their historic victory.

By March 2010, Obama’s Christmas wish had been granted – and the final version of the law did closely resemble the bill passed by the Senate on Dec. 24, 2009. And that, in retrospect, has a lot to do with why Baucus’s and Schumer’s optimism about the public’s view of health reform turned out to be misguided. But getting that done required a much more torturous path than the President or Senate Democrats could have imagined.

In one swoop, Brown took over the seat of liberal lion Ted Kennedy and destroyed the Democratic supermajority in the chamber. Just a month after the historic vote, Republican Scott Brown, riding a wave of Tea Party support, was elected to represent the state of Massachusetts in the Senate. This left Democrats with no choice but to ram through the final reform legislation by resorting to the parliamentary maneuver known as reconciliation, allowing them to avoid a filibuster and pass a later version of health care with just a simple majority.

(Other issues were at play, including a still sagging economy, but there’s no doubt the frequent charges of a “government takeover of health care” hurt scores of Democratic incumbents who had supported reform.). In fact, it remained unpopular enough – opposed by about half of all Americans – that Republicans successfully used the issue to retake the House of Representatives in the 2010 mid-term elections. Because of this ungainly process and a stubbornly consistent drumbeat of Republican criticism, the Affordable Care Act did not, as Democrats predicted, suddenly become popular.

Now, instead of smoothly rolling out the new law they celebrated triumphantly on Dec. 24, 2009, President Obama and congressional Democrats will begin 2011 by trying to beat back Republican attempts to repeal health reform. Thanks to their enduring, albeit shrunken, Senate majority, Democrats will be able to swat most attacks away, although the mere spectacle of the assault on health care reform will be an unwelcome distraction in 2011.

Republican senators have already unveiled legislation, for instance, to repeal health reform’s new Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), a group charged with limiting the growth of Medicare spending, saying it wrongly hands Medicare decisions typically made by Congress to “politically appointed Washington bureaucrats.” The name of their bill is “The Health Care Bureaucrats Elimination Act.”. Republicans’ first targets, aside from the health reform law in its entirety, will be provisions that are particularly unpopular or misunderstood.

In addition, some Republican governors have pledged to slow implementation, which could have an effect on rollout as the Affordable Care Act gives states significant power over certain important aspects of the law like new insurance exchanges. Republicans may maneuver to successfully block some Affordable Care Act-specific funding if just a few Democrats sign on, which would mean Democrats would have to implement the law using general Department of Health and Human Services funding – doable, but not ideal. A fight over appropriations could have the effect of simply bungling implementation, while not halting it altogether. “There’s a lot of tricks up our sleeve in terms of how we can dent this, kick it, slow it down, to make sure it never happens,” incoming Republican House Speaker John Boehner has said. In addition, beginning in January, Republican-controlled committees in the House are expected to summon Administration officials to Capitol Hill frequently to testify about health reform. “Trust me, I want to make sure this health care bill never, ever, ever is implemented.”. Republicans are also promising to cut off funding needed to implement the law, even though such efforts would, like repeal, require approval from the Senate and President. These hearings will give Republicans a fresh chance to suggest health reform will lead to “rationing” and drive up costs.

A showdown over health reform spending is likely. The week before Christmas this year, Reid tried to pass a massive spending bill that would have included, among other things, funds for federal agencies charged with implementing the Affordable Care Act. And Republicans have already put themselves in a stronger position to make mischief. The effort failed, which means House Republicans will be in charge of the purse strings next time a big spending bill comes up for a vote – in March.

Meanwhile, the Department of Justice is furiously trying to defend the Administration’s signature legislative achievement in court. At the heart of the legal debate is the individual mandate, a requirement that all Americans carry health insurance beginning in 2014. Although two federal judges previously ruled that the Affordable Care Act is constitutional, a third said earlier this month that a central tenet of the law is not. A final decision on the matter will likely be made by the Supreme Court years from now, casting a shadow of doubt over the law until then.
