Older Americans do not like the idea of gay marriage. The issue of gay rights is more of a millstone around the neck of the Republican Party for years to come. Over time, the public (if the trend continues, as is likely), it will become more favorable to the idea – and those who fight against it are seen as increasingly out of touch. The "uprising in his own trap," a phrase to mind. You should not let the Democrats of trying, however. Republicans, even the youngest surprising number, to approve the concept.
