The Vermont Senate passed a bill to reform the universal health system in a 21-8, largely along party lines Monday after five hours in the Green Room. (Kevin Mullin, R-Rutland, voted yes. Bobby Starr, D-North Troy, senators voted to resume nay.The Bill at third reading on Tuesday, the spirit of compromise was in order and in them.

The best way to go about trimming the budget is to use a scalpel not an axe.- Sue Butler, Bedford. For those of you in favor of all these cuts.I’m curious, when all these cuts are made what is the actual savings to an average taxpayer? Can someone tell me that? Will we even notice? Will all these cuts actually help our economy if hundreds lose their jobs and can no longer afford to buy groceries, shop for clothes, – you know – keep the economy moving.Someone made a comment a few days ago that I thought hit the nail on the head.

The office of Attorney General JB Van Hollen of Wisconsin, one of the states reported to reverse the Affordable Care Act, sent this statement categorical statement of the law, "death" of their condition when taken by a higher court, stating that it frees the government of any state and all its responsibilities to enforce the law.

The GOP-led House earlier this month voted to repeal the law, but the measure is not able to get traction in the Senate, where Obama's Democratic Party a slim majority. The president rejected the arguments made by critics of the law.

The project is directed toward the side of the Senate, where he pledged to Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to block it. However, Republican leaders of the House of Reid questioned the bill by a vote to give Democrats, who control the chamber, have little to fear. If you received one vote, the bill would repeal unlikely to get support even a majority of senators.

But first, a court has to decide someone is unfit—a very high standard. Even in cases where gun purchasers are deemed mentally unfit, they can still legally buy a gun from a private seller, because no background check is required at all.In the case of suspected killer Jared Lee Loughner, he would have faced few obstacles in buying a gun in Arizona, which already has some the most lax gun laws in the country.

And I suppose we should end k-12 public education, too? How about fire service? I mean, your neighbor has a hose, all should be good, right? Public libraries? Public works? Government guaranteed health care, where everyone pays in what they can and everyone benefits really isn't that unusual of an idea, in fact, my friend in Canada, the UK, AU, etc, etc all seem to be unwilling to trade health care benefits with me.

Around 7 a.m. one year ago today, every Democratic senator in office – 60 in all – voted in favor of enacting comprehensive health care reform. It was the ultimate Christmas Eve present for Barack Obama. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had leveraged the threat of spending Christmas in the Capitol to force even reticent Democratic senators to support the landmark legislation, close a major chapter of the debate over health care and head home for the holiday.
